Louisiana Health Care Review
THE MEDICARE QUALITY IMPROVEMENT ORGANIZATION

Medicare Information

Louisiana Health Care Review (LHCR) is committed to improving the quality of health care provided to Louisiana Medicare beneficiaries. We have a staff of qualified physicians and nurses who are ready to address any concerns you may have about quality of care you receive. We offer a Medicare Rights Hotline, and we review cases to determine what appropriate steps should be taken - 1-800-433-4958.

Several types of questions are received via the helpline:
  • filing a beneficiary complaint about the quality of health care received while the beneficiary was a patient in a hospital, nursing home, home health agency, or an emergency room;
  • filing a complaint about the quality of care received from an HMO;
  • asking questions about hospital and outpatient services and billing;
  • appealing a denial of payment on a Medicare bill;
  • asking questions about durable medical equipment (DME) such as wheelchairs, oxygen, and diabetic supplies;
  • reporting alleged Medicare billing fraud;
  • requesting information about Medicare HMOs and other supplemental insurance plans;
  • replacing a lost Medicare card;
  • asking questions about Medicare coverage of procedures or services;
  • appealing a hospital discharge decision when the beneficiary or a family member disagrees;
  • asking about enrolling in Medicare;
  • and questions about Social security, Medicaid, and other topics.

LHCR is responsible for reviewing medical quality of care concerns for Medicare beneficiaries. However, helpline staff members are able to refer other calls to appropriate agencies. The hotline telephone number is:  1-800-433-4958. Additional information for Medicare beneficiaries is available at 1-800-Medicar(e).
